study

I did think that I was not going to make this blog all about me, but I will use myself as an example to point out some things where I made mistakes.

Earlier I referred to Walter Foster books is a great way to teach yourself how to draw and paint. They have plenty of different artists in each book, if you were to do a Google search for each artist you would see their artwork that is not in the books, including Walter Foster himself. I also suggested earlier to study artwork of the greats, but you can study the artwork of these artists featured in these Walter Foster books. You can also choose any artist that catches your eye and style that you were interested in and that way you can come up with your own style of work.

Recently what I have learned is that if you stray from your paintings and drawings and pick up another habit or hobby. Do not feel bad about it, for example, for a while I stopped painting and started to try to sculpt in clay and papier-mâché. Then I moved to photography, which I must say I am better at photography than sculptures, however, it is okay because both are part of the arts and still a creative way to express you. I have learned that one New Mexico artist puts down his paintbrush and picks up a guitar and writes his own songs, which is still a creative expression.
