I put a question out awhile ago, asking if anyone has ever had any of thier artwork in a gallery, ofcourse I had no reponse but that's ok, because I researched, (Google my favorite researcher) and also studied the illustrators that I watch on You tube. One in particular her name is Mira Byler. She has a web store on Etsy and has recently put up some You tube videos on what she sells on her store besides her original art work.
Now I know what I found out by watching her was not about showing in a gallery, but I guess what my question should have been was how could I make money selling my work. However, Mira Byler is not my only source, I did find a few other articles on how to show my work without just getting into a gallery.
Galleries are difficult to get into anyway, so I learned that if I started to put up my work in craft fairs, and other art events that I would be able to get exposure. I also learned that after one or two fairs, I could create a resume and a small portfolio and start talking to local coffee shops and hotels. Which prefer a resume and portfolio.
Now what Mira taught me was that I don't have to only sell the original work but to create prints, magnets, buttons and coloring pages of the origianl work to sell. Which I started to sell coloring pages of my drawings on my etsy store. I want to add prints too the gradually add magnets and the buttons. Both Mira and the articles suggested to create other accounts on sites like Instagram, tumblr, pintrest and facebook I already had a facebook page so I created another one just for my art work. and I also had a pintrest page and a instagram. On pintrest all I had to do was put up another board entitled my art, and I created another instagram page. I could add this blog to my etsy store too.
The only thing to do is wait a little for the craft fairs to start up now this summer. No I don't believe it would be a good idea to show my art work in a flea market, not unless I want to sell it all for a dollar. There is something I read about that kind of concerns me, and that is artist insurance. I would like to get that to cover my work just incase someone is careless and damages anyone of my pieces and refuses to pay for it. I don't want to be at a loss because some one is careless. However I can't afford a policy now and I have a lot of questions first.
